New Quilt patterns coming to Pine Valley Quilts

New Quilt patterns coming to Pine Valley Quilts

July has been a month of pattern writing for me..... trying hard to catch up and clean the slate. I have eight new patterns written ! Some of them are still being tested by the wonderful ladies who answered to my blog post calling for testers. I have loved the feed back about the draft copies they have tested for me and I am sure it has made me better pattern writer.

Now just waiting for the weather to give me a nice day to take the cover shots..... we have had such terrible wet weather but it is winter after all. On the nice days it seems there are always other things that take preference. (like my poor husband being struck down with the flu) However I do have a few sneeky shots that I can show you.

The Butterfly Table Runner. This is one of my favorites, made with 'Wild Orchid' range by Blackbird Designs.

Aunt Bessy's Sparkle Table Runner made with the same range with a few other bit's and pieces added in for good measure.

Pine Tree Quilt, the fabrics are a mix of older fabrics I had been saving and I love how they came to life in this quilt. Living among Pine Trees this quilt reminds me of how they look after the rain when the sun is filtering through the branches.

Simply Baskets Quilt made with the same Sara Morgan range as Milly's Garden Quilt.

Well that's my show and tell for now. The patterns for these quilts will be released soon, I'll let you know when I release them either here on the blog or via the Pine Valley Quilts newsletter.

I would love to know which one is your favorite ? I love them all ! but I am biased lol

My little Boho Quilt

My little Boho Quilt, this is the name I have given to my second quilt in the Small Wonders series. 'Boho' has become a style that is short for Bohemian ? I may be wrong about that please dont hesitate to correct me. When I looked at the Arrow Crown block in my UFO pile I felt it had that Bohemian look to it. You can read the original post I wrote back in February 2012 about this Arrow Crown Block here. My little Boho Quiline Valley Quilts Because this block is fairly busy I though a small plain border would help separate the next border of Flying Geese Blocks. When I say plain don't confuse this with solid. I felt the fabric still needed a print that blended with the block. My latest favorite block are these cute as a button small flying geese. Perfect for borders. I have a tutorial on these cute flying geese blocks here. My little Boho Quilt / Pine Valley Quilts I love how the Flying Geese blocks have that scrappy look by adding loads of fabrics and mixing them all up. For the centre part of the Flying Geese Blocks I used a mixture of mainly Reds with a few different choices of that divine cheddar. The cheddar colour always adds a punch. The sides of the Flying Geese Blocks were a mixture of neutral fabrics, with each side being a different fabric. My dilemma was where to go from here ? I wondered about adding a little applique but just could not picture it in my mind. So............ it was back to my fabric stash to look for the perfect fabric and I found just that !! I had long forgotten about this beautiful fabric, I am so over the moon as I have loads of it, definitely a bonus and a fabric that is begging to be used. My little Boho Quilt / Pine Valley Quilts This fabric definitely gave My little Boho Quilt the look I was after. I felt the outside border did not need to be too wide to finish this quilt. I am so pleased to see this UFO block put to good use, and very happy with how it turned out. The quilt has finished at 22 inches x 22 inches so perfect for adding to my Small Wonder series. Would you like to make My little Boho Quilt ? Sign up to my Newsletter to keep informed about new pattern releases. Now I am off to find more UFO blocks. Happy Stitching Sharon

Quilt Pattern Writing Day

Quilt Pattern Writing Day today at Pine Valley Quilts. Quilt pattern writing is my least favorite part and I must admit I would rather be sewing haha. Apart from the pattern writing my to do list today is also to find a bit of time to sew, if I don't have sewing time I get a little grumpy. (fancy that!) So here is my plan for the day. A little more stitching on my small quilt series. I have added borders of wool applique as I think it goes so well with the look of this quilt. Small Quilt Series / Pine Valley Quilts Small Quilt Series / Pine Valley Quilts I have only stitched the berries down, so I hope to finish this today. I also need to focus on quilting the borders of my Tavern Reds Quilt, I have put this aside for too long and need to pick up the pace to get it finished. The pattern is written already but the quilting on this quilt is nagging at me. Tavern Reds / Pine Valley Quilts Well I had better get on with it all or that pattern will never get done !! LOL Happy Stitching Sharon

New Design

Hello Everyone

I cant believe I am organized and on the ball early today. I have had a design floating around in my head for a while and have finally committed to making it.

I found the perfect fabrics for this project at the Melbourne Quilt Market from Lynette Anderson ( Follow my Heart). I purchased a fat quarter pack and they are just so lovely. I am really looking forward to using these in this design. Lynette has always been a favorite designer of mine.

I have also found a great new photo editing site called Pic Monkey, don't you love what I was able to do with this picture. Such a lot of fun and so many options to choose from.

Well I bet you are wondering what this design is ? Well I have played around on my computer and come up with this to start with, the size of my quilt design may grow as I progress as there are loads of fat quarters in this bundle as it is the whole range so I am not limited to the size of the quilt.

I have thought of a name for this project. ( My Home Town ) I thought this would be a good tribute to the little town I grew up in.

I would love you all to follow along with me on this project and share each step, the decisions and changes I make along the way. I would love to hear your thoughts, ideas and comments.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend, mine will be hopefully weather permitting filled with getting my garden into shape.

Happy Stitching

Quilt Patterns

Hello Everyone Where does the time go?  I hope it slows down soon, I have a plan not to let it get away from me this year, although I am not sure it is working. Last year was full of deadlines which kept me on track but did not allow for much creative time out, so I am hoping to make this year more flexible. However I did get time to have a lovely quilt published in the Australian Patchwork Magazine a two part pattern for January and February editions. I have been working on pattern writing all last week and have the pattern finished for this lovely quilt. Pattern available here. [caption id="attachment_1373" align="aligncenter" width="819"]My Blue Garden My Blue Garden[/caption]     I also finished the pattern for my Wildflower quilt that I have been working hard to finish. I am soooo happy to have these quilts finished, all the hard work is now worth the while. Pattern available here. [caption id="attachment_1372" align="aligncenter" width="743"]Wilflower Wildflower[/caption]   My schedule for this year has several teaching engagements. I will be teaching invisible machine applique this Saturday 23rd Feb at All Things Patchwork. If you would like to do a class with me you can contact Cheryl. If this class is full I will be doing more classes so you can always put your name down for a future class. I will be teaching my Starflower table runner, you will learn the method for invisible machine applique or if you prefer to stitch by hand this method can also be used. My table runner is in the shop if anyone would like to take a look. When you have done my applique class, there is a great opportunity for those of you who need extra help, or would like to make any of my patterns to join my group I am going to be running at the shop. I am looking forward to this, it will be loads of fun and a chance to learn and share and make some lovely new friends. For more information on this group contact  Cheryl at All Things Patchwork. I am also teaching machine quilting classes at All Things Patchwork in March 11th and 18th. This should be a fun class, learning to quilt lovely feathers and fill in designs and quilt those large quilts with a domestic machine. Wow that is a lot of information

Australian Patchwork and Quilting Magazine Project

Hello Everyone

Outside it is raining constantly. I love these days, I can spend my time surrounded by my quilting and shut myself off from all the jobs waiting for me outside. Bliss !!!!

I have been very busy over the last few months making projects for the Australian Patchwork and Quilting Magazine. The first of four of my projects was published this month. I have really enjoyed working with the magazine and hope you will all enjoy the new projects I have coming out in the up coming issues from now until January next year.

This quilt was made with hand dyed fabrics I have been collecting and a French Cream Solid for the background. The picture below has been made in reproduction fabrics.

If you have missed out on the magazine, the Abundance Quilt Pattern is available on the Pine Valley Quilts Website

Happy Quilting
