Purple Daisies Quilt is all ready for the binding. The quilting on this little quilt was great practice, not only in the quilting motives but also in the design.
I started with a grid in the center block, then decided on random circles and feathers for the applique border. I used a fine silk thread to stitch the grid, then changed to Aurifil 50 weight cotton thread for the pumpkin seed design. (this may be my new favorite go to design) I love the look of this design used on this block. I used the aurifil 50 weight cotton thread for the feathers in the applique border, using the finer silk thread for the circles. I love the way these two threads blend together, the aurifil 50 weight cotton thread really gives the quilt a lovely texture without detracting from the design of the quilt. I was limited to my colour choice as I did not have a matching thread in my collection so I chose the closest colour I had, to match the gold fabric. It gave the quilt just enough contrast without detracting too much from the overall design.
Purple Daisies Quilt was named because of course those big purple daisies in the applique border. The applique has added to this quilt block (corn and beans) making it into an original quilt design in my Small Wonders
quilt series. I am busy working on the pattern for the Purple Daisies Quilt, ready for the next newsletter.
