My first Farmers Wife Quilt Block
It is a lovely day outside, I have spent the morning in the garden, which is needing lots of love and attention at the moment. It is now very very hot out there so I welcome the time to do some quilting.
I have finally started my Farmers Wife Quilt. The girls at our " Sew in day" are keen to get started on this beauty, they have inspired me to get into gear and make a start.
We will be posting our block here on the blog each month so you will be able to follow our progress each month.
Here is a pic of my first block Attic Windows
With this block I found the cd with the book only has the templates and as I prefer to foundation piece these blocks I used my computer ( there are several different programs you can use ) to draft the block and then print it onto foundation piecing paper. The Farmers Wife block so far and not that difficult but I have found with the Civil War Dairy blocks I have done that foundation piecing is the way to go with all those tiny pieces.
I have also found that when you are working with small pieces it is very important to be precise with you 1/4 inch seams. I have been using YLI soft touch thread. It is a 60 weight 100% cotton and lovely for piecing, applique and great in the bobbin. It is also great value for money. Take a look www.pinevalley.co.nz/catalog/yli-soft-touch-thread
