Hand Piecing and Family Times

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year

I am a little late with the Xmas wishes, spending a relaxing time reading many blogs and Facebook posts I can see that many of you had a lovely day.

I also enjoyed a lovely time with my family, although we all missed Peter ( my lovely son ) and  Chantal ( his girlfriend / friend ) over in London, his first Xmas away from home. We did manage to catch up with them both during the day and had a good long chat. We did have my other lovely son Derek and his girlfriend Nicola home for Xmas and spent a lovely couple of days with them and their new addition 'Louie' and gorgeous golden retriever puppy that Rosie has fallen in love with, they played so much that the next day she could barely move from her bed for most of the day.

Now that the Xmas rush and excitement is over it is a lovely time to relax and do a bit of hand work, I have pulled my ever on going project out of the cupboard and stitched a few more blocks, I am not sure what I am going to do with these blocks, but I am loving the feel of needle and thread. I am also finding I am getting them done quite quickly so maybe they will appear in a project sooner rather then later.

Making these blocks has given me an excuse to rummage through the reproduction fabrics I have been collecting and I found this lovely selection. I feel a red and white quilt is in order for 2013. I love the red and white quilts, some are very simple in design but the impact is amazing. Many of you would have already seen the display in New York in 2011 of red and white quilts. As I mentioned in the beginning of this post I have had a lot of fun reading some very inspiring blogs over the last few days. I have also added a few new ones to my blog roll list that you may want to take a look at. Quilt Station by Margaret Mew, I feel a kinship with this lovely lady, a woman after my own reproduction heart. She has amazingly reproduced the Maltaville Quilt and has another blog that you can follow the process she went through re - creating this wonderful quilt.  From her blog I read all about her wonderful friends and then moved onto take a look at their blogs also a good read and very inspiring and interesting quilters. 5 foot 1 quilts, Focus on Quilts. I have also found more wonderful inspiring blogs to follow and will be letting you know about these in future posts. I hope you have enjoyed my ramblings and interesting finds. Happy Stitching Sharon

I too feel a kinship with you and now I can see we have the same sewing machine :-) I intend to try some invisible machine applique this January, you have inspired me to finally give it a go.

    Hi Laura
Thanks for the lovely comment, I am itching to start using those lovely red and white fabrics and have them displayed in my sewing room hoping to come up with an inspiring idea.

    Hi Margaret
I look forward to your invisible machine applique and I am always available if you need any info. You also have made me pick up my hand piecing and give it another go, I am really enjoying just sitting a stitching and have a plan to continue ( haha best laid plans and all that ). I am trying to hand piece my Dear Jane but had come to a bit of a standstill so now I am looking at it with fresh eyes but my hand piecing skills are a little rusty to say the least.
Also I will be going to symposium and deliberating over which class to take at the moment, so would love to catch up.

    Hi Sharon,
I was the lucky winner of the fabrics you so generously
donated to guild last Saturday. They are so beautiful, thank you so much. I am so looking forward to using them.
    regards
