Friendship Star Day today

Friendship Star Day today ! I have been making Friendship Star Blocks with some leftovers ( Scraps ) such a cute little block, once I had made one I had to make another and so on it goes............... It all started when I had an idea to write about all the tips I have learned about piecing blocks................ But as I thought about all of these things I realised that I have not yet stopped learning !! As I thought about how I would write about my piecing knowledge I was ticking a list off and came to pressing...................... I have always pressed to the side for many reasons. Pressing to the side allows you to butt the seams together making it easier to sew intersections, gives you a ditch to stitch in, makes the quilt stronger ? This last one I am not completely sure of. So......... I decided to test pressing my seams open and see. So here is my half square triangle block pressed open. I have to say I love it so far., so I made more.................. Friendship Star Day at Pine Valley Quilts   Then I made a few more...................... Friendship Star Day at Pine Valley Quilts I put them into piles, separating the different colours......... I know it's scrappy but I still have to have a little control...... Friendship Star Day at Pine Valley Quilts Then I decided on Friendship Stars Blocks......... Friendship Star Day at Pine Valley Quilts Oh so very cute....................... Then I started playing with the layout................ this is just too much fun............... Friendship Star Day at Pine Valley Quilts My blocks are laying lovely and flat !! I don't need to stitch in the ditch, I see an all over quilting design on this quilt. My seams are matched perfectly with little effort. I think I might be a convert.........I think there is a place for both ways of pressing, different ways for different quilt blocks. I see another 'Small Wonder Quilt' happening here........ I know I have to keep working on this little beauty. I'm hooked. How do you press your seams ?? Lovely piecing, but your rotary cutter is pretty cool, too!!

Friendship Star is my favorite block! I usually press seams to the dark side, but having noticed some patterns written saying to press seams open, I have found there are reasons for doing so. Looks like you have a great mini on the way with those blocks!
