Candy Baskets Quilt has an unusual basket block using mainly squares in the centre of the basket. The block goes together easily and gives you the opportunity to raid your scrap basket. My Candy Basket Quilt has been made from mainly Red and White fabrics with a few pinks thrown in to give it a bit of interest. The Candy Basket Quilt block first caught my eye in an antique quilt, I had not seen this basket block before and thought it would be a fun block to draft and sew. Antique quilts are such an inspiration to me and many other quilters, it is a such great way to pass on the quilting legacy they left behind.
I would have loved to have shown you the old quilt I based my block design on, but I no longer have it in my files. Somehow I must have deleted it without knowing it !!!! Computers are great but at times............If you know this quilt I would love to know more about it.
I also used this quilt block in my quilt 'Maggie's Baskets
' in the Maggie's Baskets Quilt I used some beautiful Jo Morton
fabrics using a dark brown to frame the blocks, from memory the antique quilt used black fabric in this way also.
The quilting on the Candy Baskets Quilt was a lot of fun. It was nice to quilt a small quilt as many of the quilts I have done are so much larger.
Of course no quilt photo is complete without Kitty Kat..............
It is perfect on sitting on my old Singer Treadle machine, I have a photo album with photo's of my late parents on top, I am sure this little quilt would have been a favorite of my Mum's.
This little quilt is one of my favorites, I have made so many larger quilts, making this smaller quilt was such a fun project and I have many more smaller quilts planned.
The pattern for Candy Baskets is now available in the Pine Valley Quilts pattern store
