I love to design my own quilt patterns and share them. I am a confessed lover of vintage and reproduction fabrics, my favorite thing to do is applique.

Border ideas-Whimsical Baskets Quilt have been percolating in my mind while I have been busy working on quilting the Tavern Reds Quilt. Yesterday I was struck with inspiration, using 60 degree triangles to finish the border on my Whimsical Baskets Quilt. I had to put my quilting aside and work on it straight away while the idea was hot in my mind. I had originally planned to finish the quilt with an applique border, but this quilt has taken on a mind of its own and applique just did not seem to fit once I got to the border. I have decided to use the floral fabrics to make 60 degree trianlges and piece the border. I used my Creative Grids 60 degree ruler, this makes it quick and accurate to cut the 60 degree triangles, I love the way the top edge of the triangle is blunt and makes it easy for placement when piecing the border. Accurately cut templates would also work, I say accurately because it is very important to have accuracy when cutting and with your 1/4 inch seams to make sure the borders are the correct size. The rulers also make it easy to have the fabric straight of grain along the outside edge which is also an important factor and definitely something to keep in mind when using templates. To use templates I would still work from strips in this case the strips are cut at 3.75 inches wide by the length of fabric, and use the template in the same manner as the ruler.
