A pleasure to Quilt

Whimsical Baskets has been such a pleasure to quilt, I have enjoyed the process from start to finish. ( which is not always the case ) A pleasure to quilt / Pine Valley Quilts For the applique center I used fine thread 50 weight cotton for the decorative pumpkin seed design. The applique has been embroidered with free motion embellishment before the quilting was done. The applique is stitched by machine to give the look of hand applique. A pleasure to quilt / Pine Valley Quilts   I Used a 40 weight cotton thread to quilt the blocks and borders, complementing the more detailed appliquéd center. I tried the 40 weight thread to decorate the feather on the bottom right of the applique centre but decided it was too much embellishment so I spent most of the day unpicking it. It is much softer without it. A pleasure to quilt / Pine Valley Quilts Thinking of the label, which I had planned to hand embroider as I think that would suit this quilt. Then I had a light bulb moment! I then thought how about using free motion embroidery on the sewing machine. I have so many ideas on how I am going to decorate my label, its a whole new place to play with threads and imagination. I often use free motion embroidery to embellish my quilt blocks so why not the label ? I will let you know how the label turns out, but for now I'm really enjoying the process. I have enjoyed taking my time with this quilt, giving myself time to enjoy the process. Its amazing how much the creative juices flow when you allow yourself time. Happy Stitching Sharon

    Hi Zoe

So glad to be of help, I find playing around with different threads so much fun. I am loving all the blocks everyone is sharing. I have tried the back basting method, I agree it is a great method.

I am really enjoying your website Sharon Thanks so much for telling us what thread weight you used for the quilting. This is always a big question mark for me. By the way I have finished the first 3 blocks of Rambling Ways and loving it. I’m hand appliqu
ing by back basting, my favorite method.

Absolutely gorgeous! I want to know if writing the label with machine stitching works. Wish I’d thought of that – I hate making labels.
