1/2 Square Triangles

Hello I have been busy making one inch 1/2 square triangles for my new design. I love these cute little squares.

I have found using the Aurifil 50 weight thread makes quite a difference to getting these lovely little squares accurate. With the fine thread you can get fine stitching in the seams that does not take up allot of room therefore making a 1/4 inch seam more achievable. I also use a Schmetz 60/8  sharp microtex needle with this thread making smaller holes and again less room in my seams. I use this thread for all of my piecing work and have found it to be absolutely brilliant.

Aurifil Thread is available on our website.

Schmetz sewing machine needles are also available on our website.

When making smaller blocks, I have found that smaller prints or tone on tone fabrics work famously. The black fabric in these pictures has maybe a larger print then I would normally use for this size but as it is the black that I want to focus on in my design I am happy with it.

I am making these into a table runner for our Pine Valley Quilts pattern line so keep watching as I will keep you updated with the progress.

For this one inch size 1/2 square triangle you need to cut squares 1 7/8 inches, then draw a diagonal line down the middle of the wrong side of the light square.

Place squares together with right sides facing, stitch a 1/4 inch seam on each side of the drawn line. Cut down the drawn line to give you two 1/2 square triangle units and press them open towards the light fabric.

Soooo Cute

Happy Stitching
